I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advanced Trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach®, practicing in Austin, Texas. Through psychotherapy and parent coaching, I support children, adolescents, and their parents to recognize their own strengths and develop healthy relationships.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I completed undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Economics at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and spent several formative years working for AmeriCorps. I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas and fluently speak Spanish.
Therapeutic Approach
I have worked as a therapist with children, teens, and parents and caregivers for 10 years. I enjoy supporting all members of the family in their journey toward peaceful and fulfilling relationships. I know that being a parent is one of the hardest roles a person can hold in life – and growing up in the world is really hard work, too.
My approach is influenced by child-centered play therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, cognitive therapy, and mindful self-compassion. In my work with parents I draw primarily from the Nurtured Heart Approach®, a framework for creating healthy relationships between parents and their children.
Clients and colleagues have described me as warm, grounded, and compassionate. I balance my approach to counseling with empathy and humor, and I work hard to create a space where clients of all ages feel comfortable engaging in therapy.
I regularly participate in a consultation group for psychotherapists as well as an ongoing reading group to stay up-to-date on research and topics relevant to my work.
